Dr. Suryya Kumar Chetia

Dr. Suryya Kumar Chetia, an alumnus of Demow College, completed his BA Major in English in 2003. He pursued higher studies with distinction, earning an MA in English Literature from Dibrugarh University in 2005 and a PG Diploma in Mass Communication from the same institution. In 2011, he added to his academic achievements with a Master of Communication degree from Gauhati University.
Dr. Chetia is an accomplished professional with diverse expertise. He served as a journalist at The Assam Tribune, one of Assam’s most reputed dailies, for five years, where his contributions were widely appreciated. An erudite scholar, he qualified the UGC NET in both English and Mass Communication and Journalism. He also imparted his knowledge as a lecturer at the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication during 2013-14.
In 2014, Dr. Chetia joined Assam Women's University, Jorhat, as a founder faculty member of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. Today, he serves as the Head of the Department, leading it with vision and dedication.
Beyond academics, Dr. Chetia is an ardent photographer, a documentary film director, and a passionate advocate for nature conservation. His commitment to blending creativity, knowledge, and social responsibility makes him an inspiration for students and peers alike.
