International Translation Day Observed at Demow College

International Translation Day Observed at Demow College Demow College observed International Translation Day on 30 September 2026 through a programme jointly organised by the Department of Assamese and the Department of English of the college. As part of the observance, an online lecture programme was organised on the theme “What is Translation, Translation Technology and the Assamese Language.” The distinguished resource person for the programme was Mr. Biswadeep Gogoi, Senior Resource Person associated with the National Translation Mission under the Central Institute of Indian Languages. The programme was formally inaugurated by the Principal of Demow College, Dr. Krishna Jyoti Handique .The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Hemanta Konch, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, Demow College. The objectives and significance of the programme were elaborated by Dr. Lengdon Chetia, Head of the Department of English, Demow College. In his lecture, Mr. Biswadeep Gogoi elaborated on various dimensions of translation, with particular emphasis on the concept and significance of translation, translation and language development, and the role of modern technology in the field of translation. He also discussed the emerging technological tools and their relevance to the translation of Indian languages, particularly Assamese. The programme was attended online by Dr. Wakidur Rohman, Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Demow College, along with Assistant Professors Gunamoni Gogoi, Palash Sharma, Sabnam Richa Sonowal, Parishmita Gogoi, Bandana Borgayari, Salman Hussain and Bhaswati Baruah, besides 113 students of the college. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Juri Kataki, Head of the Department of Assamese, Demow College. The observance provided an enriching academic platform for discussing the importance of translation, its contemporary technological dimensions, and its role in the development and wider dissemination of the Assamese language.
