Preamble
Demow College recognizes the critical importance of disaster management to safeguard the lives of students, faculty, and staff, as well as to protect infrastructure and resources. This policy establishes a framework for disaster prevention, preparedness, and response to ensure the safety and resilience of the college community.
Objectives
1. To minimize the risk and impact of disasters on the college community.
2. To enhance preparedness through training and awareness programs.
3. To ensure a coordinated and effective response to disasters.
4. To promote a culture of safety and resilience within the campus.
Disaster Management Cell Structure
The Disaster Management Cell (DMC) of Demow College will comprise:

Policy Guidelines
1. Prevention Measures:
– Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards, including floods, earthquakes, fires, and cyclones.
– Implement structural and non-structural Mitigation measures:
– Ensure all buildings adhere to disaster-resilient design standards.
– Install fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting.
– Develop and display evacuation plans and safety instructions in all buildings.
– Regularly inspect and maintain critical infrastructure, such as electrical systems, water tanks, and fire safety equipment.
– Promote environmental conservation by maintaining green spaces to reduce vulnerability to natural disasters.

2. Preparedness Measures
– Capacity Building:
– Organize training sessions on first aid, fire safety, and evacuation procedures for staff and students.
– Conduct mock drills for various disaster scenarios at least twice a year.
– Awareness Programs:
– Display posters and distribute leaflets about disaster preparedness.
– Conduct workshops and seminars on disaster management.
– Resource Management:
– Maintain a disaster preparedness kit, including first aid supplies, emergency communication tools, and basic food and water supplies.
– Develop a roster of trained volunteers among students and staff.
